Kelly Clarkson dreams of starring in White Christmas remake
Kelly Clarkson is desperate to get involved in the live TV musical trend by playing her dream role in a remake of White Christmas.
The Grammy-winning singer was performing a holiday show in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday when she expressed her long time dream of appearing in a remake of White Christmas, calling the 1954 classic her "favorite Christmas movie".
And Clarkson has her sights set on the role of Betty Haynes -
famously portrayed by Rosemary Clooney.
"You know how they're doing musicals on TV now?" she told the
audience. "I really want to do that with that movie."
The 34-year-old performed before a sold out crowd at the
Bridgestone Arena in her hometown and was joined by several notable
guests, including Reba McEntire and Kelsea Ballerini.
The performance marked her return to the concert stage following a
year-long hiatus from touring.
Should Clarkson's small screen ambition become a reality, she would
join a long list of stars and fellow American Idol alumni who have
featured in live TV musicals.
Just this month, former American Idol star Jennifer Hudson appeared
in a production of Hairspray Live!, alongside Ariana Grande, and in
January (16), Julianne Hough tackled the widely popular Grease:
Live.
The performances, like Peter Pan Live! and The Wiz Live!, came
following the success of Carrie Underwood's turn in The Sound of
Music in 2013. The live event was watched by a stunning 18.6
million viewers and generated big buzz on social media, setting off
a wave of similarly-hyped musicals.
In October (16), it was announced that Jennifer Lopez would
headline Bye Bye Birdie in another live TV musical in the coming
year (17).
