Keira Knightley reveals family's history with anorexia

Actress Keira Knightley has opened up about her family's history with anorexia in a bid to explain whey she gets so upset when the media suggests she has an eating disorder.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star has long been criticised for her slender figure, and some gossips have suggested she starves herself and binges to stay thin.

Knightley has always maintained she has never battled anorexia, but the reports have affected her on a deeply personal level, as many of her loved ones have suffered from eating issues.

She tells Britain's Daily Express, "I've got a lot of experience with anorexia. My grandmother and my great-grandmother suffered from it and I had a lot of friends at school who suffered from it, so I don’t think it’s anything to be taken lightly."

She adds, "The anorexic stuff is always going to have an impact, so I think it did hit pretty hard. I knew I wasn't anorexic, but it made me think maybe my body is somehow not right. Or my face is not right."

And while she credits her slim frame to good genes and a fast metabolism, she also confesses she doesn't exactly maintain a healthy diet and routine exercise regimen either.

Knightley adds, "The very thought of a diet makes me want chips and ice cream, and I just hate going to the gym. The most exercise I get is turning on the TV."
