Katie Holmes entering a 'new phase' of life

Katie Holmes hinted at her divorce news by revealing she is entering a "new phase" of her life in an interview conducted just weeks before her split from Tom Cruise.

The former Dawson's Creek star stunned the world when she filed for divorce from Cruise last week (28Jun12) while the movie star was filming a new project in Iceland.

She has remained silent about the breakdown of her five-year marriage, but in a chat with Elle magazine just weeks before the divorce news became public, Holmes talked about embracing change now she is in her 30s.

The actress said, "I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin. I feel sexier. I think in my 20s, it's like you're trying too hard to figure everything out... I'm starting to come into my own. It's like a new phase."

When asked about her identity as Cruise's wife, she adds, "He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years. I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that."

Holmes also reveals it's more difficult to find work after being in such a high-profile relationship, adding, "Things are not handed to anyone. If anything, you work a little bit harder when you're in such visible circumstances."
