John Legend wishes Chrissy Teigen a happy birthday with sand art

John Legend celebrated his wife Chrissy Teigen's 31st birthday on Wednesday (30Nov16) by hiring an artist to write out a message in the sand on a beach in Mexico.

The All of Me hitmaker whisked the model and TV personality away to Los Cabos for a little getaway, and he took to Instagram on Wednesday morning to dedicate a heartfelt post to the birthday girl.

"Happy birthday to my queen," he captioned a black-and-white photo of Chrissy. "You are beautiful, bright, funny, passionate and so inspiring. Your presence makes my life and our world so much better. I LOVE YOU!"

John later returned to social media to show off a picture of the mother-of-one wearing a low-cut black bathing suit, posing beside a huge message in the sand, which had been professionally arranged to read, "Happy Birthday Chrissy", all in block letters.

Meanwhile, Chrissy spent part of her birthday morning cooking a pork stew in their vacation home after picking up some "beautiful" ingredients at a local store.

She shared posts from her kitchen as she began the task, but confessed she was "pretty tequila drunk at 11am".

"I have no idea why I am making pork stew in 85 degree weather," she then added, after revealing she was cooking in a grey one-piece swimsuit and John was helping out while wearing his swimming shorts.

Chrissy also documented the start of the couple's vacation on Snapchat on Tuesday (29Nov16) as she shared the idyllic view from her sunbed on the beach with fans.

"Bday trip," she simply captioned the shot.
