Joe Jonas relieved after release of candid interview

Written by . Published: December 07 2013

Pop star Joe Jonas felt an overwhelming sense of relief once his candid essay for New York Magazine hit newsstands this week (begs02Dec13), because he had been battling anxiety issues over how the article would be received by fans.

The singer spilled details about everything from the struggles that tore the Jonas Brothers apart and threatened to destroy their family, to his drug use and his high-profile romances with Demi Lovato and Ashley Greene, and he admits a great weight has been lifted from his shoulders now his feelings are all out in the open.

He tells UsMagazine.com, "I feel really relieved actually. I was very nervous releasing it. I hit kind of an anxiety wall where I was like, 'S**t, am I about to do this? This is kind of nerve-wracking.' But then you just look at it on a different scale. You're like, 'This is my life and this is my story for myself to tell whoever is interested and let them inside the crazy life I've lived!'"

However, Jonas made sure his family was well prepared for his tell-all by sitting them down beforehand to discuss the interview.

He says, "I think it's sensitive for someone so close to you to release (details of family fights). I wanted to make sure I spoke to them ahead of time and give them a heads-up that this is coming out. They had a very cool reaction to it. My brother Nick was like, 'Hey dude, it's your interview.' That kind of speaks for itself. I felt really good about releasing it."

And the 24 year old insists there is no feud between him and his ex-girlfriend Lovato, after he confessed to only staying with the embattled star to help her deal with her drug abuse problems.

He adds, "I saw her yesterday. Demi and I are good friends and we have been friends for years."

Meanwhile, Lovato, who is now clean and sober, admits she was a little taken aback when she first read the New York Magazine article.

She tells Eonline.com, "Well, first I was like, 'Umm, we need to talk,' and then we talked and I was fine. I was like, 'Look, I'm not mad at you but you need to choose your words more carefully next time.'"
