Jewel to play June Carter
Jewel is set to follow in Reese Witherspoon's footsteps by portraying country music legend June Carter in a new TV movie.
Reese Witherspoon walked away with an Oscar for her portrayal of Johnny Cash's second wife in 2005's Walk the Line biopic and now the Who Will Save Your Soul singer will get her chance to take on the role in The June Carter Cash Story for TV network Lifetime.
Executive Rob Sharenow says, "Many people know about the legendary
love story of Johnny and June, but June Carter Cash has her own
epic journey filled with triumphs, tragedies, loves and losses.
This movie will explore all aspects of the woman behind the icon,
and we're thrilled Jewel will be playing the role."
American Horror Story actor Matt Ross will play Johnny Cash in the
movie, which will chronicle the couple's tumultuous relationship as
well as her rise to fame, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project will be based on John Carter Cash's memoir Anchored in
Love: An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash. He will also serve
as an executive producer.
