Jessie J reveals stroke scare at 18
Pop star Jessie J has revealed she suffered from a stroke when she was just 18 years old.
The Price Tag hitmaker took the stage at the Delete Bone Cancer Gala in New York on Wednesday (07May14), and shocked guests with the news of her past health scare before she started performing.
She told the audience she had written her song Who You Are after
she "had just had a minor stroke," adding, "I thought that I was
never going to get better.
"I feel so lucky that I was given a second chance at life, so every
day when I am able to do this, you have no idea how amazing it
feels that I'm so lucky to be onstage and singing and living my
dream... I appreciate every day that I am able to live my
dream."
The 26 year old, who was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White
syndrome which can cause an irregular heartbeat, as a child then
dedicated Who Are You to "anybody in this room who's lost somebody
to cancer..."
Models Coco Rocha, Doutzen Kroes and Georgia May Jagger, who was
recently named the first Coty Global Ambassador in the fight
against blood cancer, were also among in attendance at the charity
gala.
