Jessica Chastain rules box office as Mama opens at number one
Jessica Chastain's amazing 2013 continues - her new horror movie Mama has surprised the experts and debuted at the top of the box office.
Mama beat out all-action new releases Broken City and The Last Stand to claim the number one spot with an opening weekend take of $28.1 million.
The feat means Chastain stars in the top two films in the nation -
Zero Dark Thirty drops a spot to number two with $17.6 million in
earnings.
The actress has started the new year off in style, picking up an
Oscar nomination for Zero Dark Thirty, and two major accolades - a
Golden Globe and a Critics' Choice Awards trophy.
Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe's Broken City
disappointed with a $9 million and comes in fifth on the domestic
box office chart, while Arnold Schwarzenegger's comeback as a
leading man had a dismal opening weekend, placing 10th with a poor
$6.3 million.
