Jesse Eisenberg blasts anti-gay protesters in London

Jesse Eisenberg put an anti-gay protester in his place as he preached to the actor at the London Pride celebration on Saturday (25Jun16).

The Social Network actor was walking his rented city bike through central London when he came across a group of anti-gay protesters, who held signs with Bible verses while one preached anti-gay sentiments through a loud speaker.

Video footage uploaded by Urban Pictures UK shows Jesse standing and listening to his speech while shaking his head and he then approached the barrier and another man tries to hand him a flyer. The man says, "Is your mind closed?" and the actor replies, "That's so f**king sad".

When the man repeats the question, Jesse replies, "That's so f**ked up" before shaking his head and walking off.

The incident took place not far from the Trafalgar Studios theater, where Jesse is currently performing in The Spoils, a play he wrote.

In a new interview with Britain's Guardian newspaper, Jesse explained how his parents raised him to care about social causes. He said, “It was totally understood, growing up, that we should support people who are struggling. This was not debatable – in my family, no one talked about, you know, the value of lower taxes. We talked about the value of education, of social security, of universal healthcare.”

He also revealed before his temporary move to London he spent four months volunteering at a domestic violence shelter in Indiana, which he has an unspecified personal connection to.

He wasn't the only celebrity spotted at London Pride - a celebration for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT). Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley appeared as their Absolutely Fabulous characters Edina and Patsy to promote the upcoming movie version of their beloved U.K. sitcom, which hits British cinemas on Friday (01Jul16).

It is released in the U.S. on 22 July (16).
