James Corden signs multi-million dollar deal

James Corden has signed a $16 million deal to present The Late, Late Show for a further five years.

The British actor was announced as the new host of the much loved show in March (15). While many doubted whether James had what it takes to be successful as a chat show host, the actor's presenting stint has proved to be incredibly successful.

With interviews with world famous stars including Stevie Wonder, Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey under his belt already, CBS bosses were apparently determined to keep James on in his hosting role.

His contract was originally for two years, but has now been extended to five.

"Five years. They can sack me at any point but I don't think I can leave," James said, according to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper.

James' show has been a hit thanks to new segments including the hilarious Carpool Karaoke, in which his celebrity guests join him in his car for an impromptu singalong.

The actor originally shot to fame as a comedian and star of British television series Gavin & Stacey. But it was when he landed a theater role in One Man, Two Guvnors on Broadway that he caught the eye of CBS bosses as a potential host.

"I was reticent but I'd rather regret doing something than not doing something," James said of presenting the show.

In a recent interview, James admitted he isn't relaxing now that his show has found success. In fact, he feels the popularity of the series just increases the pressure to continue making hit episodes.

"I don't think, 'Oh, the response has been great, therefore we can relax,' " James told Britain's Evening Standard newspaper. "If anything, that positive response (creates), not pressure, because you'd much rather that than the other, but ultimately, your response is, 'OK, well, they like this, so let's try and do that better.' I don't think we've cracked it."
