Jaden Smith and Cara Delevingne to Play Lovers in New Drama
Will Smith has cast his son Jaden to star opposite model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne in romantic drama Life In A Year.
In the film Jaden will play a 17-year-old boy trying to help his dying girlfriend, portrayed by Cara, experience their dream life together in 12 months.
Letters to Santa moviemaker Mitja Okorn will direct the project, from a script by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews.
Executives at Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment will co-produce the film, which will begin shooting this spring in Toronto, Canada, reports Deadline.com.
The role marks Jaden's return to the big screen since director M. Night Shyamalan's 2013's After Earth, in which he starred alongside his superstar dad. The 18-year-old went on to shoot TV movie Brothers in Atlanta in 2016 and Netflix hip-hop drama series The Get Down.
Meanwhile, Life in A Year will be Cara's second time working with Will - they previously appeared together in the comic book adaptation of Suicide Squad, in which the British beauty portrayed June Moone, aka Enchantress, and the 48-year-old actor portrayed supervillain Deadshot.
She will be hoping critics will be kinder this time around, after Suicide Squad, which also starred Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and Jai Courtney, was panned in the lead up to its release last summer (16).
"The critics have been absolutely horrific," she told Reuters about the negative reviews. "They're really, really horrible... It doesn't really matter what the critics say at the end of the day, it's the fans that we made this movie for."
