Ireland Baldwin roasts dad Alec over 2007 voicemail scandal
Alec Baldwin was roasted for his infamous 2007 voicemail scandal by his own daughter on Sunday (25Jun17) as the actor was honored at an event in New York City.
The Departed star was saluted at the Apollo Theater as part of Spike TV's One Night Only series, where guests included Julianne Moore, Robert De Niro, Tracy Morgan, and Alec's actor brothers Billy and Daniel.
Alec's model daughter Ireland Baldwin, whose mother is Kim Basinger, was among the stars to pay tribute during the celebration, but she made her dad squirm as she made a funny reference to the angry voicemail rant, in which he slammed his then 11-year-old kid as a "rude thoughtless little pig" in a leaked phone message.
Now 21, Ireland introduced herself to the audience and then poked fun at their formerly fractured father-daughter relationship.
"I'm here to roast this big old ham I call my father," she told the crowd, as Alec looked on beside his wife Hilaria. "Speaking of pigs. Some of you may remember me as that 'thoughtless little pig' you read about (in the tabloids). That was a decade ago, and my dad and I are in a much better place now. He would never say something like that."
"The truth is, that whole awful period nearly killed him emotionally," she continued. "I wouldn't see my dad that upset ever again... until I showed him my first tattoo. OK, my second tattoo. I couldn't show him where I got the first one!"
Ireland wrapped up her speech on a heartwarming note, making it clear she and her dad are closer than ever.
"I know you've heard this and time again, but I really am proud to be your daughter, and I'm so happy to be here tonight," she said. "And I absolutely love and adore you."
Ireland's funny comments about the decade-old controversy emerge weeks after Alec, 59, admitted the scandal had caused a "permanent break" in his relationship with his eldest child, describing it as "a scab that never heals" because it's constantly brought up in the media.
Alec has since found happiness with his second wife Hilaria, the mother of his three young children - daughter Carmen, and sons Rafael and Leonardo.
