Iggy Azalea's new album needed a revamp after broken engagement
Rapper Iggy Azalea decided to overhaul the content of her new album after her romance with former fiance Nick Young fell apart.
The Fancy hitmaker had been gearing up to release Digital Distortion over the summer (16), when she discovered the Los Angeles Lakers star had been cheating on her.
Iggy dumped the sportsman in June (16), and days later, his
ex-girlfriend Keonna Green, the mother of his young son Nick, Jr.,
confirmed rumors suggesting she was pregnant with their second
child.
The Australian hip-hop star then postponed plans for the July (16)
launch of Digital Distortion, and she now admits she needed to take
a step back to come to terms with her broken engagement and the
shock of Nick's infidelity.
"I needed a lot of time," she told People.com. "I mean, you wake up
one morning and your fiance is having a baby with someone else,
you're going to need some time, right?"
Iggy also felt the need to rework the tone of her latest material,
the follow-up to her 2014 debut The New Classic, to reflect her new
single status, so she headed back into the studio.
"It's no secret, I kind of had my personal life fall apart," she
explained. "I just kind of felt like, on top of me needing the
personal time, then feeling, 'OK, I'm single now. I want to have
sexy songs. I want to say stuff about being single.'
"I obviously didn't write that on my (original) album because when
I wrote it I was about to get married... I don't want to go and
promote my album and get asked about my relationship that has just
crumbled."
In addition to channeling her feelings into her music, which fans
can now expect in January (17), Iggy also used her love of
horseriding to help her relax in the wake of the public
break-up.
"It's definitely helped me calm down," she said of her favorite
hobby. "I'm not in control! They weigh a ton! I think it's good,
it's humbling, very humbling... I think horses definitely have
helped me a lot with that."
Iggy has since bounced back from her heartbreak by stepping out
with fellow rapper French Montana, who she was recently caught
kissing on a yacht in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
She subsequently insisted they were "just friends", but it appears
French has really fallen for Iggy as he recently gifted her with
seven diamond rings.
Azalea showed off her new jewels in a snap on Instagram last week
(ends23Sep16), when she shared a photo of her hand, with the bands
spread across three fingers.
She also tagged French in the caption after adding a love heart
emoji, and also gave a shout-out to his jeweller, who goes by the
handle Iceman Nick.
