Harry Styles invited to take personal tour of SeaWorld after urging fans to boycott park
Singer Harry Styles has been invited to take in a personal tour of controversial California theme park SeaWorld to see how bosses care for their animals after the One Direction star spoke out against the tourist attraction during a concert in San Diego on Thursday (09Jul15).
The Best Song Ever hitmaker appealed to fans at the Qualcomm Stadium gig, not far from the city's SeaWorld resort, to boycott the parks amid concerns of the mistreatment of animals kept in captivity, stating, "Does anybody like dolphins? Don't go to SeaWorld."
Video footage of Styles' simple statement was shared online by fans
and fellow animal rights activists, including officials at People
for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Game of Thrones
actress Maisie Williams, who tweeted, "You heard him ladies and
gents. Don't go to sea world (sic)."
However, SeaWorld chiefs are seeking to change the British singer's
opinion of their parks by inviting him to a special visit.
A representative writes on Twitter.com, "@Harry_Styles, if you want
to see what SeaWorld is really about, we're happy to show you and
answer your questions."
The post also links to an open letter to Styles, which reads:
"We've seen a concert clip of you urging your fans not to visit
SeaWorld. We want you to know we love dolphins too. We care for the
animals in our parks like we would our own family. We are committed
to making sure their lives are enriching and they are continually
engaged socially, mentally and physically. And, we also care for
dolphins in the wild...
"We invite you to see for yourself, and then decide based on facts.
We are happy to open our doors, take you behind the scenes, and
have our trainers and vets answer any questions you have."
Styles has yet to respond to the offer.
