Gina Rodriguez making directorial debut on TV

Actress Gina Rodriguez is taking on double duty for her hit TV show Jane The Virgin by adding director to her list of talents.

The star is stepping behind the camera for an upcoming episode in the current season four, which returns to TV screens in January (18).

She shared the news in a Twitter post on Tuesday (12Dec17), writing, "First day of prep on my directorial debut on #janeThevirgin and I'm filled with joy! #femaleDirectors #weHere".

Gina's hashtags appear to be a jab at Golden Globes bosses after they failed to nominate a single female filmmaker for their Best Director movie category on Monday (11Dec17).

She took to Instagram after the Globes nods were announced to celebrate the multiple honors for fellow Latino artists and their work, like Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water and hit animated film Coco, and responded to one follower who complained about the all-male Best Director shortlist.

"I feel you. Big time," she replied. "The no female directors was a blow to us all. Best film this year by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird). Highest grossing, Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman). Most Thought provoking and powerful, Dee Rees (Mudbound). Oh I feel you big time!"
