General Hospital is big winner at Daytime Emmys
U.S. soap opera General Hospital proved it was fighting fit at the Daytime Emmys on Saturday (23Jun12) after scooping five of the prizegiving's top awards.
The show, which is the world's second longest running daytime drama, picked up the event's biggest award, Best Drama, at the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton hotel in California.
General Hospital's haul also included Lead Actor in a Drama for
Anthony Geary, while his co-stars Jonathan Jackson and Nancy Lee
Grahn picked up the Supporting Actor and Actress prizes,
respectively.
The directing team was also honored.
Heather Tom was named Lead Actress in A Drama for The Bold and the
Beautiful.
Meanwhile, rival soap Days of Our Lives also picked up two awards:
Younger Actor in a Drama Series for Chandler Massey, as well as an
Emmy for the writing team.
Retired entertainment legend Regis Philbin was honored for his long
tenure on TV with the Emmy for best talk-show host alongside his
former co-anchor Kelly Ripa. Their popular program, Live! With
Regis And Kelly, also claimed best entertainment talk show, its
first ever win in that category.
Other winners at the annual ceremony included Dr. Oz (informative
talk show), Jeopardy! (game show), and Today (morning show).
