Game of Thrones makes Emmys history with most wins
Hit fantasy drama Game Of Thrones broke the record for most Emmy Awards after another three wins at the 68th annual prizegiving on Sunday night (18Sep16).
The show was presented with the coveted Outstanding Drama Series prize, as well as Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for executive producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Miguel Sapochnik.
Game of Thrones went into the ceremony with nine wins from the
Creative Arts Emmys, which took place the weekend before
(10-11Sep16) - giving them a total of 38 wins for their six-season
history.
With their impressive haul, Game of Thrones is now the most awarded
scripted series in Emmys history, surpassing the previous
record-holder, beloved sitcom Frasier, which has an overall total
of 37 wins.
Game of Thrones, which is adapted from author George R.R. Martin's
book series A Song of Ice and Fire, won't have that much longer to
rack up more Emmys - the cult program will be ending after its
upcoming seventh season, due to hit screens next year (17).
