Franco's new college show upsets students
James Franco has upset students at the University of Southern California (USC) with his new Internet reality show, which features the wild side of college life in Los Angeles.
The 127 Hours star, who studied at city rival UCLA, was hoping to focus on USC's parties and students' run-ins with the law in Undergrads, which debuted on Thursday night (26Jan12).
It follows a pack of students coping with life off campus and
features boozy scenes of debauchery and excess and footage of
police officers shutting down out-of-control parties.
But while the kids on camera appear to be having a good time,
several other students are disgusted by the idea and think Franco
should be ashamed of himself.
Junior cinematic arts major Travis Newhouse tells the Los Angeles
Times, "It's irresponsible." And junior Ellie Newcomer Smith adds,
"It so undermines the strides the school has made
academically."
Reports suggest protests are planned as students and university
officials attempt to shut down the show.
