Emma Watson and Rachel McAdams donate jeans for refugee appeal
Stars including Emma Watson, Rachel Mcadams and Kate Moss have donated clothes to raise funds for the Jeans For Refugees charity drive.
The celebrities, including Alicia Vikander, Elle Macpherson, Zoe Saldana and Eva Longoria, have given a pair of their denim trousers to artist Johny Dar, who has transformed each piece into a work of art by covering them in unique designs.
More than a hundred stars have signed up for the Jeans for Refugees
initiative, and the first 15 went online for bidding at auction
site Catawiki.com on Friday (22Jul16) while more, from Elton John
and Claudia Schiffer will be added to the website over the next 100
days.
"In this case it's not about fashion, it's art," Johny, who
kickstarted the project, says to Vogue.com. "It's an intuitive
process, surfing whatever feelings were in the jeans from the
celebrity who wore them, and doing my best to bring them out
through the painting."
The drive raises funds for the International Rescue Committee
(IRC), an organisation which helps those affected by the refugee
crisis in the Middle East and Europe.
Speaking of the star power involved in the drive, Johny says, "I
believe they were convinced the same way that I was convinced
myself, and how everyone else became convinced too - this is a
humanitarian cause that is much grander than me and everyone
involved in it... Everyone who is participating heard the call and
answered."
The jeans, which also belonged to Sharon Stone, Pink, and Lily
Allen, will go on display at the Saatchi Gallery in London in
October (16) to mark the end of the auction.
