Eddie Redmayne receives OBE at Windsor Castle
Eddie Redmayne felt "incredibly humbled" when he was awarded with the Order Of The British Empire (OBE) on Friday (02Dec16).
The Oscar-winner was pictured beaming as he met Britain's Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle, where she honored him with the prestigious title for his services to drama.
Talking to the press after the ceremony, Eddie described it as a
moment beyond his "wildest imagination".
"It was absolutely wonderful. Also being with such extraordinary
people the whole experience is incredibly humbling and also getting
to be in Windsor Castle is breathtaking, around Christmas as well
with all the decorations," he smiled to reporters.
Eddie was joined by his wife Hannah Bagshawe, who gave birth to the
couple's first child, daughter Iris May, in June (16). The pair
posed proudly for photographers, though The Theory of Everything
star admitted he may not have looked his best after their little
one kept them up the night before.
"She does have the habit of knowing when you have a big day, like
today," he laughed. "And she was up until four in the morning, so
both my wife and I came today with matchsticks under our eyes.
Other than that she is on cracking form."
The star also divulged on what Her Royal Highness said to him upon
bestowing him with the OBE, revealing she asked him if he prefers
film or theater. As well as movies like Fantastic Beasts and Where
to Find Them and The Danish Girl, Eddie has also appeared in stage
productions including Richard II and Red.
"I’m very lucky to do something I am passionate about – I’m very
grateful to do something I love because it is a rare thing," he
added.
