Dwayne Johnson has signed on to star in Disney's upcoming live-action movie Jungle Cruise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former WWE wrestler will not only appear in the flick, but he will also act as a producer under his Seven Bucks Entertainment banner.

It is believed that the film will have a plot inspired by the popular riverboat cruise theme park ride of the same name, which first opened at Disneyland in 1955.

On the production side, Dwayne, 44, will be joined by Dany Garcia, the co-CEO of Seven Bucks Entertainment, and he is also in negotiations with producer Beau Flynn, whom he worked with on 2015 action movie San Andreas.

Disney has been in talks with the Moana star over Jungle Cruise since 2015, but the project had been on hold while writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay wrote the latest draft of the script.

A director and other cast members are yet to be announced, but filming is expected to begin in spring 2018 to fit in with Dwayne's hectic shooting schedule.

The box office favorite is currently promoting action flick The Fate of the Furious, also known as Fast 8, and will shortly begin shooting video game movie adaptation Rampage.
