Rapper Drake is taking his love for basketball to the next level by hosting the inaugural NBA Awards.

The Hotline Bling hitmaker, who has served as the global ambassador for his hometown team, the Toronto Raptors, since 2013, will emcee the National Basketball Association's new prizegiving, which will take place in New York on 26 June (17).

Among the titles up for grabs are Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Sixth Man Award, Most Improved Player, and Coach of the Year, all of which will be presented during the event.

Nominees will be unveiled later this week (ends28Apr17), with a string of categories open to public voting.

It won't be Drake's first stint as a sports ceremony host - he also fronted the 2014 ESPY Awards.
