Diplo's Mad Decent Boat Party canceled as search for missing fan continues
Dance star Diplo's Mad Decent Boat Party festival has been scrapped after a woman "intentionally" jumped overboard on Thursday (12Nov15).
The female fan threw herself off the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship hours after it left the Port of Miami in Florida on Thursday afternoon, prompting officials to halt the boat and send out search crews to locate the missing passenger.
Members of the Coast Guard were subsequently called in to take over
the mission and the search is still underway off the coast of
Cuba.
"During the chartered cruise on Norwegian Pearl, a female guest was
observed intentionally going overboard while the ship was sailing
the Yucatan Channel," reads a statement issued by event organizers.
"The ship's crew immediately initiated rescue measures, including
deploying three rescue boats and notifying the Coast Guard and
other relevant authorities.
"The search for the guest is ongoing. Both the ship and charter
company teams are providing support to the family and all impacted
guests during this difficult time."
As a result of the incident, Mad Decent Boat Party bosses have
decided to turn the ship around and head back to Miami, according
to TMZ.com, instead of continue on to Cozumel, Mexico, where fans
were due to spend the weekend (13-15Nov15), before returning to the
U.S. on Sunday (15Nov15).
The annual party cruise, hosted by Diplo's record label executives,
had been due to feature sets by artists including A-Trak, Skrillex
and Diplo himself. The dance star's act Major Lazer and Dillon
Francis are still scheduled to hit the decks to keep passengers
entertained on the journey home to Miami.
