Demi Lovato's family fears convinced her to seek addiction help
Demi Lovato has revealed the fear of not getting to see her little sister Madison De La Garza was what finally led to her agreeing to seek help for her drug addiction issues.
The Skyscraper hitmaker spent time in rehab in 2010 and 2011 in order to deal with her addiction to drugs, as well as issues with bulimia, depression, and cutting, but it took some convincing to make Lovato realize she needed professional help before things became much worse.
In a candid interview with Access Hollywood, the 21 year old
recalls the moment she finally decided to turn her life around, and
it was all thanks to her 11-year-old actress half-sister, De La
Garza, who played Eva Longoria's daughter on Desperate
Housewives.
Lovato says, "The last time that I had an intervention, it was my
management, my entire team, manager, lawyers, everyone and my
parents coming into a room saying if you don't get sober - my mom
specifically said, 'You know, we’re going to move back to Texas and
you're not going to be able to be around your little sister'."
Lovato's mother, Dianna De La Garza adds, "I couldn't allow her, at
that point, to be around her little sister because of the things
that we found out, that really were going on.
"I had to set an example for Madison... I had to protect her and
Demi knew that. So when I said, 'I'm moving back to Texas', she
knew that I finally meant it that time, and that's when we all sat
down with her and said, 'This is it, you have to make a change or
we're all going our separate ways because, if you don't want this
career, we're not going to want it for you.'
"And that’s when the big turnaround happened. It happened that
night, that very night."
