Demi Lovato regrets starting her career so young

Demi Lovato regrets becoming a star at the tender age of eight years old.

The now 24-year-old singer first made a name for herself on TV show Barney and Friends, before starring in Disney Channel movie Camp Rock alongside the Jonas Brothers.

While she is today considered one of the most successful young female artists in the music industry, she admits that making the jump from child screen star to respected vocal talent was anything but easy.

"I wouldn’t start that young if I could do it over again,” Demi said at the Cannes Lions festival in France on Monday (19Jun17). “It was a difficult transition from child star to transforming into a mainstream artist. It’s something that is very challenging."

"You have to find your identity. For so long you’ve been molded into something and then you’re expected to figure out who you are very fast in front of the entire world."

In a bid to introduce her fans to a different side of herself, Demi is set to star in a new YouTube docuseries called Demi Lovato: Simply Uncomplicated. The program will premiere in the fall, and follows Demi on a year-long journey.

“I feel like I’m at a turning point in my life - I’m turning 25,” she continued. "Hey, it’s a quarter of a life. I’m looking at my future and my past and I want to share it with my fans... I feel like I’ve lived a lot longer than I actually have.”

Aside from her work, Demi keeps herself busy doing mixed martial arts training and jiu-jitsu, in which she has a white belt. She is also gearing up to release the first single from her new album, admitting the next offerings epitomise her as an artist.

“I found my sound,” the Cool for the Summer singer smiled.
