Demi Lovato reflects on a year of loss

Written by . Published: March 16 2016

Singer Demi Lovato is relieved to have made it through the past year after experiencing "too much death".

The 23-year-old spent most of 2015 in mourning, having lost her beloved grandfather as well as three dogs, including puppy Buddy, who was savagely killed by a wild coyote in July.

The singer was dealt another blow when her uncle passed away in January (16), and as she marked her fourth year of sobriety, she took to Twitter on Tuesday (15Mar16) to reflect on how she had handled her tough few months.

"This last year I experienced so much life and too much death... But I made it through..." she wrote. "Sober. #4Years #GodsWill".

Demi has been open about her personal struggles in the past, having faced a dependency on alcohol and drugs as well as self-harming and suffering from an eating disorder.

But, despite her long period of mourning, Demi has been able to stay healthy and on track, and over the weekend (12-13Mar16), she revealed her pride at successfully maintaining her sobriety through it all.

"I can't believe I have 4 years on Tuesday.. Anything is possible," she wrote, before adding: "Most people die but others just go.. She's still out there and the chasm grows.. Steady are the feet in the morning glow.."

Demi announced on Instagram in September (15) her beloved grandfather had passed away, just two months after Buddy's tragic accident.

In a tribute to both her grandfather and late pooch Buddy, Demi posted a sweet black and white photograph of them together.

"My two favorite Buddy's are now playing in Heaven," she captioned the snap. "My heart is absolutely broken and I can't even begin to imagine a world without my Papa but I know one day we'll meet again and that's what keeps me going. I hate writing this... But RIP Papa... I miss you so much already. I love you. Please keep my Mimaw (grandmother) in your prayers (sic)."
