Demi Lovato praises Miley Cyrus for getting sober

Demi Lovato is "really proud" of Miley Cyrus for making the decision to get sober.

The Wrecking Ball star recently revealed she no longer drinks alcohol and has also kicked her marijuana habit, in a bid to be "super clear and sharp".

And Demi, who has also suffered from addiction issues, has come forward to praise her old friend and fellow ex-Disney star for being so open about changing her life in such a positive way.

"I am really proud of Miley," Demi told The Hollywood Reporter. "I think that it helps people to know that there are people in the spotlight that have challenges, that are faced with very stressful lives. I think it helps to know that recovery is possible and it's something that is so important to certain people like myself."

Demi, who has previously been to rehab to get help for issues including eating problems and bipolar disorder, celebrated reaching five years of sobriety in March (17), when she took to her Instagram page to thank her fans for their support.

"So grateful. It's been quite the journey. So many ups and downs. So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession," she wrote. "I'm so proud of myself but I couldn't have done it without my higher power (God), my family, friends, and everyone else who supported me. Feeling humbled and joyful today. Thank you guys for sticking by my side and believing in me."

Miley's sobriety is more short-lived than Demi's, given that she told radio station SiriusXM earlier this month that she's been clean for "nine or 10 weeks".

"I've got a lot of energy," she noted during the chat, adding: "Look at my eyes, look at how white they are... They're clear and open and I can see and all that."

She also insisted during the interview that she found it easy to quit because once she sets her mind to something, she sticks to it.

"Anything that I want to do, if I want to stop or start something, I can do anything. I just decided not to (smoke marijuana) anymore and now it's easy for me," she proudly shared.
