Dakota Johnson and John Boyega compete for BAFTA Rising Star Award
Dakota Johnson and John Boyega are among the acting newcomers in competition for the Rising Star prize at the 2016 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.
The Fifty Shades of Grey actress and the British star, who shot to fame in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, go up against Kingsman: The Secret Service actor Taron Egerton, and Brie Larson, who is currently scoring awards recognition for captivity drama Room.
Rounding out the shortlist is British actress Bel Powley, who
starred in A Royal Night Out and The Diary of a Teenage Girl last
year (15).
Johnson, who also starred in gangster drama Black Mass, says, "I am
thoroughly stunned and honoured to be acknowledged with an EE
Rising Star Award nomination. Thank you, I am truly grateful."
Boyega adds, "Thank you to Bafta and the jury. I'm honoured to be
considered for the EE Rising Star Award in this company. What a
great way to start the new year."
Previous recipients include James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, and Kristen
Stewart.
The winner will be decided by public vote and announced at the
London ceremony on 14 February (16).
The full list of BAFTA nominations are due to be unveiled on Friday
(08Jan16).
