Christina Aguilera and Theo James have reportedly been added to the cast of upcoming sci-fi movie Zoe.

The singer and Divergent star are set to appear in director Drake Doremus' upcoming film along with fellow new additions Miranda Otto, Rashida Jones and Matthew Gray Gubler, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

They will be joining previously announced cast members Lea Seydoux and Ewan McGregor, who are set to play lab workers who come across some profound discoveries while focusing on developing technology to perfect romantic relationships.

Doremus, who helmed features such as Like Crazy and Equals, is also producing the flick, which will be based on a script penned by playwright and TV screenwriter Rich Greenberg.

Other producers for the flick include Doremus, Kevin Walsh, Michael Pruss and Robert George, with filmmaker Ridley Scott executive producing along with IM Global's Stuart Ford and Greg Shapiro, and HLCG's Li Li, Michelle Tong Zhou and Lawrence Bender.

It has also been reported that principal photography will start on 8 May (17) in Montreal, Canada.

The project will mark popstar Christina's latest acting role after making her debut opposite Cher in 2010 musical Burlesque. She's since had stints in Pitch Perfect 2 and TV series Nashville, and in 2018 fans can see her in movies Life of the Party and Broadway 4D.

Meanwhile, Theo can be seen in two movies this year (17), London Fields and Backstabbing for Beginners, with Miranda continuing her role as Rebecca Ingram in TV show 24: Legacy.

Rashida is being kept busy with writing the script for Disney and Pixar's upcoming Toy Story 4, due out in 2019, and she's also served as producer for program Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On amid various acting roles.
