Christina Aguilera among big winners at ALMA Awards
Christina Aguilera was the toast of the American Latino Media Arts (ALMA) Awards on Sunday (16Sep12) as she was honored for her career and her charity work.
The Beautiful hitmaker, who is an avid campaigner against hunger in the developing world, was presented with the Special Achievement Award at the Los Angeles ceremony, while she also claimed favorite reality TV personality for her role as a mentor on The Voice.
Accepting the Special Achievement prize, she said, "It means so
much to be here, in this situation like this today, where I'm being
honored for my humanitarian efforts, and using my voice in that way
for good."
Eva Mendes drama Girl in Progress was a triple winner with awards
for director Patricia Riggen and actress Cierra Ramirez, while the
film was also named Movie of the Year.
Diego Boneta and Zoe Saldana earned the film acting prizes for Rock
of Ages and Colombiana, respectively, while Glee's Naya Rivera
picked up the Favorite TV Comedy Actress and Favorite Female Music
Artist trophies, and rapper Pitbull took home the prize for
Favorite Male Music Artist.
Cheech & Chong star Cheech Marin received the Outstanding Career
Achievement Award, while other winners included Modern Family child
star Rico Rodriguez, Switched at Birth actress Constance Marie and
Wrath of the Titans' Edgar Ramirez.
The prizegiving, which celebrates Latin performers, also featured a
special tribute to Lupe Ontiveros, who lost her battle with cancer
in July (12).
The ALMA Awards were hosted by Eva Longoria and George Lopez.
