Original supermodel Christie Brinkley's daughter Sailor Brinkley Cook has been invited to join the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit team and continue her mum's legacy.
The young beauty, whose father is Brinkley's ex Peter Cook, appeared alongside her mother and stepsister Alexa Ray Joel in last year's (16) SI Swimsuit issue - and now she's going it alone.
Her proud mom, who famously landed a record three consecutive SI Swimsuit covers in 1979, 1980 and 1981, surprised Sailor with the news recently - and the big reveal was caught on camera.
The new recruit was shooting an interview on the roof of the IMG model agency building in New York when Christie appeared from behind a bush and explained Sailor had been chosen as the newest member of the team.
"Obviously we loved Sailor from the get go," SI Swimsuit editor MJ Day says. "Meeting and shooting her last year was one of the highlights of my career. She's the millennial girl next door. She's funny. She's driven. She's smart. She's beautiful. She's interesting. And most of all, she has a voice and isn't afraid to use it.
"Sailor translates so well off the printed page - she takes beautiful pictures but that's only one of the countless things she's good at. Much like her mom, she embodies everything it means to be an SI Swimsuit model, but she's doing it in a way that is very much her own."
As Sailor celebrated the big news while clutching a one-piece silver swimsuit with her name emblazoned across the front, Christie said, "You're on your own now. You're out of my sandy footprints, and you are on your own!"
Sailor, who will join the SI Swimsuit 2018 rookie class, will be streaming her first official solo shoot in Aruba in October (17).
