Chris Brown lands Las Vegas club residency
R&B star Chris Brown is set to become a regular in Las Vegas after landing a club residency deal.
The Loyal hitmaker has agreed to perform at least six shows at Drai's for $50,000 a gig, after previously impressing bosses with past appearances at the same venue.
According to TMZ.com, fellow singer Trey Songz is also in talks to
rotate concerts with Brown.
Sin City has become a hotspot for pop star residencies of late -
Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez have all recently
secured big-money deals to delight fans in the gambling mecca.
News of the club residency emerges as Brown faces the prospect of
having to cancel plans to tour Australia in December (15) due to
his criminal record.
The 26 year old, who infamously beat up then-girlfriend Rihanna in
2009, has been sent a "notice of intention to consider refusal" for
his work visa application, according to Immigration Minister Peter
Dutton. The decision was made after women's rights campaigners Down
Under lobbied politicians to ban him from entering the country.
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull also addressed the
controversy while launching new domestic violence policies on
Thursday (24Sep15). He told reporters, "This is a government that
is not afraid to say no... The American singer Chris Brown
strangled and beat up his then girlfriend Rihanna, he is set to
visit Australia in December, but isn't allowed to enter New
Zealand, why should he be allowed to enter the country?"
He has 28 days to appeal the ruling and present a case as to why he
should be granted a visa.
Brown has yet to comment on the travel ban, but it's not the first
time the star has encountered immigration issues as a result of his
conviction. In addition to being banned from New Zealand, officials
in the U.K. refused to issue him a visa in 2010, preventing him
from touring there.
