Chris Brown dropped as guest on The Daily Show
R&B star Chris Brown suffered a double blow on Tuesday (01Dec15) after he was reportedly dropped as a talk show guest hours after learning his criminal record had cost him the chance to tour Australia.
The Loyal singer's tour promoter announced the cancellation of his One Hell of a Night shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, which were scheduled to begin next week (09Dec15), after Brown was denied a work visa due to his 2009 assault conviction for beating up his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
The headline-grabbing domestic violence incident also prompted
producers at The Daily Show to rescind an invitation for Brown to
be interviewed by host Trevor Noah on Tuesday's episode.
According to TheDailyBeast.com, a number of staff members at the
Comedy Central show raised concerns about having the star on as a
guest, due to his troubling past, and they expressed their
discomfort to Noah, who reportedly planned to use the interview to
raise awareness about domestic abuse.
However, he seemingly had a change of heart about his choice of
guest and Brown's appearance was abruptly scrapped. Nick Cannon was
subsequently drafted in as a last-minute celebrity interviewee.
A representative for Comedy Central has played down the
controversy, telling the Washington Post, "The show hopes to
reschedule Chris for a future appearance."
South African comedian Noah is no stranger to domestic violence
himself - he witnessed it first-hand as a child as his former
stepfather allegedly attacked his mother on numerous occasions,
even once trying to shoot her in the face.
