Brits win big at International Emmy Awards
The U.K. proved to have the best television of the year on Monday night (14Nov14), with Brits winning three top prizes at the 2014 International Emmy Awards on Monday night (24Nov14).
Nominees from Britain came out on top at the New York ceremony, which honors excellence in TV programming outside the U.S.
The Tunnel star Stephen Dillane was honored with the Best
Performance by an Actor prize, while crime thriller Utopia won Best
Drama Series, and school-based docu-series Educating Yorkshire
landed the award for Non-Scripted Entertainment.
Other winners included Dutch star Bianca Krijgsman (Best
Performance By An Actress) and Belgium's show Wat als 2?, which won
Best Comedy.
Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner was honored with the Founders Award
in recognition of his contribution to TV, and the show's stars
Christina Hendricks and John Slattery were on hand to present the
prize to him.
CEO and President of Latin American media group Globo Organization,
Roberto Marinho Irineu, received the Directorate Award.
Other presenters at the prizegiving included actors Matt Lucas,
Laverne Cox, Carrie Preston and Darby Stanchfield and rapper 50
Cent.
