Brad Pitt's alleged attacker sentenced to community labor
Brad Pitt's accused attacker Vitalii Sediuk has been sentenced to 20 days of community service after pleading no contest to striking the actor during the Hollywood premiere of Maleficent.
The Ukrainian reporter was arrested after allegedly jumping over a security barrier at the El Capitan Theater on Wednesday (28May14) and lunging at the movie star, appearing to strike him in the face.
He was held on $20,000 bail and on Friday morning (30May14), he was
slapped with misdemeanor charges of battery, assault, unlawful
activity at a sporting event, theatrical or exhibition and unlawful
delay or interference of a sporting event, theatrical or
exhibition.
He appeared before a Los Angeles judge hours later and pleaded no
contest to battery and unlawful activity at a sporting event,
theatrical or exhibition - and escaped with a relatively light
punishment.
Sediuk was given the option of serving 30 days behind bars or 20
days of community labor, and he chose the latter, reports
TMZ.com.
He was also handed 36 months probation and ordered to pay $220 in
fines, while the judge also barred him from attending any future
Hollywood events by banning him from going within 100 yards (91.44
meters) of the Staples Center and the L.A. Live complex, where the
Grammy Awards are held.
In addition, the notorious red carpet prankster must stay away from
the Hollywood and Highland shopping center, where Wednesday's
alleged attack took place, and keep his distance from Pitt and his
fiancee, Maleficent star Angelina Jolie.
He is due to be released from police custody later on Friday.
Sediuk has become infamous for causing chaos on the red carpet - he
previously made headlines in 2012, when he was slapped by Will
Smith after he attempted to kiss the actor, and he was placed on
probation after he was arrested for crashing the stage at the 2013
Grammy Awards, where he ran onstage and grabbed the microphone from
Jennifer Lopez as she presented soul star Adele with the Best Pop
Solo prize.
The 25-year-old troublemaker was also taken into custody at the
recent Cannes Film Festival in France as he tried to crawl under
America Ferrera's dress.
