Azealia Banks releases long-awaited debut album
Rapper Azealia Banks debuted her long-awaited album without warning on Thursday (06Nov14), two years after its original release date.
The 212 hitmaker initially planned to unveil her debut disc Broke with Expensive Taste in 2012, but the project suffered a series of setbacks and the release was pushed back several times.
Banks was embroiled in a feud with bosses at her Universal record
label over the album, threatening to leak it online and publicly
pleading with music executives to release her from her
contract.
They finally parted ways in July (14), and the disc became
available on song store iTunes and music-streaming service Spotify
on Thursday, without any prior warning or marketing campaign.
Banks writes in a post on Twitter.com, "Words cannot express the
way I feel... Wait is over, get Broke With Expensive Taste... Skip
class and stay home from work!! Invite your friends over and
celebrate!! Broke With Expensive Taste is finally here!!!"
The record was released by Banks in collaboration with independent
record label Prospect Park.
