Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson close Hairspray Live! with powerhouse duet
Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson brought the house down with their incredible duet on Hairspray Live! on Wednesday night (07Nov16).
The duo were just two of the names involved in the star-studded NBC production, which also saw Kristin Chenoweth, Derek Hough, Ricki Lake and Marissa Jaret Winokur wowing the audience.
Ariana starred as Penny Pingleton in the show, while Jennifer
played Motormouth Maybelle, but it was their performance of Come So
Far (Got So Far to Go) which closed the live broadcast that really
showcased the pair's incredible vocal talents.
Speaking previously about the song, Jennifer told E! News: "It's
exciting, it's fun. I'm a fan of (Ariana), so it's like, we get to
sing together - when I found that out I was like, ‘Oh yes, let's
get into it.' It's another cool thing I get to add to my list,
that's for sure."
Meanwhile, Ariana said the message of the song was more important
now than ever, adding to the outlet: "The hook says, 'We've come so
far, but we've got so far to go,' which is exactly where we're at
right now. It's exactly why we're supposed to be doing this show
right now, cosmically. The world needs to hear it in a fun musical
way, it's a message that we need to get out there."
The number acted as the curtain call for the rest of the cast, who
were understandably beaming from ear to ear following a successful
live performance with only a couple of snags.
Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick continued her tradition of live
tweeting through these live television musicals, with her hilarious
tweets including: "Can I please be J.Hud in a purple push-up bra
when I grow up?? #HairsprayLive."
Modern Family star Sarah Hyland also commented on Jennifer's bra
choice, writing: "I own a purple push up bra too #JHud Although I
don't think it has the same effect. #hairspraylive."
Other stars to take to their social media pages to praise the cast
of the live production included Jennifer Lopez: "Loving
#hairspraylive !!!!" Jennifer wrote, before sharing a teaser video
for the next musical alongside the caption, "I am SO excited to be
a part of NBC's next live musical #ByeByeBirdieLive!"
Meanwhile, Ariana's brother Frankie was quick to praise his sibling
for her incredible performance, writing: "OMG! @ArianaGrande is
SLAYING #HairsprayLive! She's perf as Penny! Like I peed when she
said 'I don't hear anything maybe it's the altitude'."
