Angelina Jolie's film wins Producer's Guild award
Angelina Jolie has won her first award as a director with her filmmaking debut In The Land Of Blood And Honey.
The Hollywood actress has stepped behind the camera to write, co-produce and direct the movie about a romance between a Serb soldier and a Bosnian Muslim woman during the Bosnian Civil War in the 1990s.
The film has now won its first accolade, being named as the
recipient of the Producers Guild of America's 2012 Stanley Kramer
prize.
The award is given to films which successfully highlight
"provocative social issues" and has previously been given to movies
including I Am Sam, Hotel Rwanda, Milk and Precious: Based on the
Novel Push by Sapphire.
Producers Guild presidents Hawk Koch and Mark Gordon say in a joint
statement, "In The Land Of Blood And Honey is an extraordinary film
that portrays a complex love story set against the terrors of the
Bosnian war, especially towards women."
