Amanda Abbington was 'robbed' at the Emmy Awards

British actress Amanda Abbington alleges she was robbed while collecting her Emmy Award on Sunday night (18Sep16).

The 42-year-old actress, most well known for her role in BBC series Sherlock, was on hand to help accept the gong for Sherlock: The Abominable Bride after the TV special was named Outstanding Television Movie.

However, later on Sunday night following the ceremony, Abbington took to Twitter to tell fans she suspected she had been the victim of a robbery during the ceremony.

“Thanks for the lovely tweets re; the Emmy’s. So pleased we won! Cool, right?” she wrote. “However, we went up to collect the Emmy, did some press, came back to my seat and some b**tard had nicked my purse from under my seat. Nice. Had my phone and driver’s license in it.

"So whoever took my purse, I hope some terrible Karmic s**t happens to you. How crappy is that."

When the winners take to the stage at the ceremony, seat fillers take their place to ensure their spot is not occupied while they are away.

However, Abbington, the real-life partner of her on-screen Sherlock husband Martin Freeman, did not reveal whether or not she had seen someone in her seat when she collected her trophy alongside her castmates.

Following Abbington's tweets, one of her followers suggested the purse could have "accidentally got kicked away from under the chair and then someone handed it in to staff" at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

But the actress replied: "No, I hung around until everyone had left the auditorium. Nothing there."

Sherlock, starring Martin and Benedict Cumberbatch as Watson and Sherlock respectively, is expected to return to screens for a fourth series next January (17).
