Alicia Vikander: 'It felt right to sit with Michael Fassbender at Oscars'

Alicia Vikander was adamant she would sit next to Michael Fassbender at the 2016 Academy Awards.

The private couple, who have been dating since 2014, tend to keep their relationship under wraps for the most part, but appeared to confirm their romance when Alicia kissed Michael before she collected her best supporting actress Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl at the 88th Academy Awards in February (16).

Right after her name was called, a Louis Vuitton-clad Alicia, 27, planted a peck on Michael, 39, before accepting the accolade. For the normally secretive pair, the public display of affection was a rare sight. Though Alicia refuses to speak about her personal life, the Ex Machina star now shares how important it was for her to have Michael by her side to celebrate the moment.

"That wasn't even a question," she told British Vogue magazine. "It felt like the right thing. We wanted to sit next to each other, simple as that. We wouldn't have gone there and not sat together."

Alicia appears on the cover of the fashion publication's August issue, looking barefaced and beautiful in a highly embellished gown. In the accompanying photoshoot, she also models an oversized knitwear jumper over a black bralet among other striking ensembles.

Despite her success and reputation as a multi-talented star, Alicia is still focused on growing as a performer and feels particularly driven to be the best actress she can be.

"You have the fear," she sighed. "Maybe that's why I keep on working. Because it will stop one day."

Luckily, the Sweden-born star has fellow actors at hand, ready to give her grounding advice. She further reveals that after she won her Oscar, her Jason Bourne co-star Matt Damon prepared her for what to expect: "He told me what a rush it was. I think his was the best advice. He said, 'Enjoy it.'"
