Alicia Keys and DNCE join Beyonce and Jay Z's charity gig
Beyonce and Jay Z have added Alicia Keys, Dnce, and Prince Royce to the star-studded line-up of their second annual Tidal charity show.
Reports emerged last week (ends16Sep16) suggesting the hip-hop supercouple was planning another big gig to promote its artist-owned streaming service, after staging its first show in Jay Z's native Brooklyn, New York last year (15).
The new Tidal X: 1015 event was rumoured to also feature Nicki
Minaj, Lauryn Hill, and Lil Wayne, and now the news has been
confirmed, with Alicia, Royce, and Joe Jonas' pop group DNCE set to
perform at the Barclays Center on 15 October (16), too.
Other artists include British soul singer Emeli Sande and hip-hop
star Blood Orange, according to the concert's official Facebook
page.
The gig will be broadcast live on Tidal and raise funds for a
number of charities, including the Robin Hood Foundation, which
supports educational programmes in underprivileged areas of New
York.
Last year's (15) inaugural all-star bash, titled Tidal X: 1020,
featured appearances by Jay Z, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Lil Wayne,
Usher, Nas, and Nick Jonas, while Beyonce and Nicki Minaj used the
opportunity to perform their Feeling Myself hit live for the first
time.
Late superstar Prince had initially been announced as one of the
headliners, but pulled out of the event at the last minute. No
reason was given for his absence. He died in April (16) after
suffering an overdose of prescription painkillers.
Jay Z launched the Tidal streaming service in March, 2015 with
fellow investors including Beyonce, Usher, Nicki, Rihanna, Madonna,
Kanye West and Daft Punk. However, the stars faced a backlash from
critics over the company's subscription fees, amid concerns the
lack of a free service, which is provided by rivals like Spotify,
could drive music-lovers back to illegal downloads.
