Adele was not offered Super Bowl Halftime gig, says NFL
Adele was never offered the chance to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show next year (17), the National Football League (NFL) has stated.
The 28-year-old singer hit headlines on Saturday (13Aug16) when she told the audience during her concert at Los Angeles' Staples Center that she had declined the chance to headline the world-famous halftime segment.
"First of all, I'm not doing the Super Bowl," she told the
audience. "I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I
don't really - I can't dance or anything like that. They were very
kind, they did ask me, but I said no."
"I'm sorry but maybe next time with my next album. I'm going to do
a dance album next time," she joked.
Following Adele's claims, the NFL and Pepsi released a joint
statement insisting they never made the Hello star an official
offer. However, they did hint that they had been in discussions
with Adele about the prospect.
"The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele," the statement read. "We
have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super
Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a
formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting
together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to
revealing that in good time."
If Adele had agreed to perform, she would have followed in the
footsteps of 2016 headliners Coldplay, who were joined by former
show-stoppers Beyonce and Bruno Mars.
The Super Bowl will take place at the NRG Stadium in Houston,
Texas, on 5 February 2017.
Meanwhile, Adele also used her Saturday night show to address
rumors she is pregnant. The singer is already mother to
three-year-old son Angelo with partner Simon Konecki and it was
recently reported she was expecting baby number two.
But Adele dismissed the allegations, telling the crowd: "I was
like, what do you mean that I'm pregnant? I was like, of course I'm
not pregnant."
She then joked with the audience that she's actually having a
"cheese baby."
