Actor Todd Duffey loses Office Space product lawsuit
Office Space actor Todd Duffey has lost a lawsuit against studio bosses behind Jennifer Aniston's 1999 cult comedy over the use of his image for commercial purposes.
Duffey, known for playing obnoxious waiter Brian, who wore various pins and badges on his uniform and referred to them as "flair", sued executives at 20th Century Fox Film in a New York court last year (13), claiming they had no right to allow his likeness from the movie to be used by the makers of The Office Space Box of Flair.
The product, which contained a book about the movie and various fun
buttons to lighten up workplaces, was sold as a spin-off from the
film, but Duffey took issue with the use of his face on the book's
cover and on one of the pins and demanded damages and court
fees.
However, Manhattan Federal Judge Paul Oetkin tossed out the suit on
Thursday (27Mar14), ruling that Duffey's movie contract allowed
studio chiefs to use his picture for any and all promotional
purposes.
