The Boys

Hey, we're Early Morning Rebel at the Young Hollywood Studio. This is our song, Find An Easier Way. I couldn't fix a broken road and call you into my arms of open fire, you fell through. I never practiced letting go of all my empty desires.

Young Hollywood

What's up, guys? Nikki Novak here in the Young Hollywood Studio with Early Morning Rebel. Nathan, Dustin, and Josh. How's it going guys?

The Boys

It's going really well. Thank you.

Young Hollywood

How does it sound in American accent?

The Boys

Sounds really good. You do it well. You do it well.

Young Hollywood

Thank you. Um, the boys have been in London. You've been in London recently, haven't you?

The Boys

We have. Yes, we have.

Young Hollywood

Well, first of all, you guys have been together for all of nine months.

The Boys

Just about. Yep. Just about.

Young Hollywood

And the two of you have been together longer. You've sort of been

The Boys

Yeah, we've been friends since we were like 14. No way you could escape. I'll find an easier way. Burning when you lied to me.

Young Hollywood

So nine months ago, what happened? How did Early Morning Rebel come about? How'd you come on board? I'm the third wheel.

The Boys

Well, these guys are best friends, you know, and I knew about them from other bands that, uh, that we played with, and we were all playing around in LA, and it was kind of one of those moments where we decided to, uh, combine forces, you know, and, uh, and it worked out perfectly. And we just, we get along so well. And we we get along fabulously, you know, so I don't know, it's, uh, it's been magic ever since, right?

Young Hollywood

Your EP is out and it blew up and you guys became like what everybody's saying, like the darlings of the fashion industry, and you did like all these shows in the London, you know, fashion scene, London Fashion Week. How did that sort of come about?

The Boys

Well, it was really deliberate. Um, Dustin and I,

Young Hollywood

You forced them.

The Boys

Well, we were we were just like we want to go to London Fashion Week. And we want to hang out with amazing designers.

Young Hollywood

Why London?

The Boys

Because we love the London fashion scene. I think there's a lot of up-and-comers and they take a lot of risks and it's, um, we love the UK. It's cool. London Fashion Week is also, it's where a lot of the, um, the bigger fashion houses

Young Hollywood

Right.

The Boys

They'll go to see a lot of the up-and-comers, which kind of will dictate, um, what's gonna be happening next.

Young Hollywood

Right. So when you guys are performing and you know you're performing for the fashion set, how do you decide what you're gonna wear? It's very intimidating, I'll tell you that.

The Boys

Yeah. We don't claim to be like some flamboyant, uh, band that's gonna wear too much crazy. I mean, sometimes we just wear this kind of thing. And we hope that our music inspires them.

Young Hollywood

Right. What was like the craziest like spring trend or something you saw? What about what about Francesca trend? What?

The Boys

Lace. Lace is very in this season. Yes. Lace is very in this season.

Young Hollywood

But for girls and boys?

The Boys

Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. For girls and for guys too. Pink lace shirts for men.

Young Hollywood

Would you guys wear pink lace?

The Boys

Depends on the context. Yeah. Yes, exactly. Is it for art, for art's sake? Maybe I don't know. I'll wear I'll wear a pair of pink lace shorts if it's

Young Hollywood

Under shorts?

The Boys

Yes. Yes. You're wearing them now, in fact. Yes, I am. I am. I am. I've been walking on a tight rope falling. And I've been looking for a life boat for you.

Young Hollywood

Because you are in the film business and know it. You write your own, like you shoot your own stuff, you edit your own stuff, your videos.

The Boys

Yeah, Dustin directs all our videos and edits them. Um, and he's like, you know, kind of the wiz when it comes to that stuff, so. Really. Yeah, it's just, I mean, it's another piece of, of, you know, expression that we get to do. It's, you know, we get to collaborate on on a film side

Young Hollywood

Right.

The Boys

as well.

Young Hollywood

So why don't you put yourself in your own videos? Because you're not in the video for Lifeboat. You didn't.

The Boys

Give him time. Give him time. We have We have a video. We actually, we sunk that Grey's Anatomy. Yes. We're right. Yes. Lifeboat was on Grey's Anatomy. We got Lifeboat on Grey's Anatomy. And we like, Dustin and I looked at each other and we're like, we have to shoot a video for this. And so we called our friend, Anna, who's in the video, and she's kind of been a muse for our brand and aesthetic. And we like just called her and we put it together in literally 24 hours. It's all I can do, all I can say to stay away.

Young Hollywood

What is your creative process? Like how do you sit down and write? Do you write together? Like what is Does the do the lyrics come first? Like what is your your

The Boys

I I it starts with me kind of either on a piano or acoustic guitar. And I do, um, you know, it it's really important as a songwriter for me to have the song sit really well with just one instrument and my voice. And I know if it's like, if this song is working really well with just me and it's compelling, then I can bring it to the guys and we can like produce it and make it, um, make it a make it a whole band thing. But so it starts there and then I usually take it to Dustin next and he helps like fine tune lyrics and and chord progressions and stuff like that. And then we bring it to Josh and the base. And he goes, I'm changing the whole thing. Yeah, Josh is like, I hate it. Disgusting. The diva. Generally, uh, Nathan's exceptional at writing. I mean, he doesn't need a whole lot of help, you know, he comes up with some amazing gems and, and, uh, and all the stuff. Thanks.

Young Hollywood

Oh, stop it. You're so nice to each other.

The Boys

I know. We really get along well. It's kind of ironic.

Young Hollywood

Well, you're new, nine months. Give us some time.

The Boys

Give us nine months. I hate each other. It'll be great. I don't know. far earlier. Before, so. Exactly.

Young Hollywood

Now when you write, I mean, when you perform, what I notice is you you sort of tell a story. Not all singers are great at telling a story when they sing a song. Do you think that comes from like a film sort of perspective or?

The Boys

Yeah, I mean, I think it comes from just, uh, being like a huge fan of lyrics. Words and being a wordsmith and like working words has been always important for me. Burn us down. You can burn us down, we'll find another way. And if you burn us down, burn us down.

Young Hollywood

Somebody asked you as a band, something about like an OMG moment, like an oh my god moment or a wow moment. And I don't know which one of you said it. Somebody said we're from LA, we don't get shocked. Yeah. What was the last thing that shocked you?

The Boys

On the way over here, I I I I took a wrong turn and I kind of went through Skid Row. And, uh, I saw some a couple couple interesting things. I saw a guy who was who was bottomless. And I don't know how far I want to go with this story, but he was bottomless and he was walking across the street kind of thing. And it was just like, and I right away, I'm like, I think I'm in the wrong place, you know. So I had to back up and it was just one of those things. So we're like, what are we at the four seasons? He was bottomless. I was heading toward Skid Row. I knew I was heading towards downtown. This is not right. Wrong street. Need to turn around now. I mean, I don't really get shocked that easily. I just I I think it's partly from being in LA and just, you know, hanging out with the people you hang out with. Yeah, for sure. Sheltered and you sort of see it all. Absolutely.

Young Hollywood

Well, thanks guys for coming in.

The Boys

Thank you. You're amazing. You too. Thanks. You can burn us down, burn us all the way.
