If you could be someone else for a day, who do you think you'd want to be?
man. I'd probably be, I believe his name is Cash, Jessica Alba's husband. I would uh, I would be Cash for a day.
Cash is a lucky man.
Yes, he is.
I don't think he'll he'll give that job up, right?
Oh man, I don't think so.
Thank amana luck there. RJ here, hanging out the Young Hollywood studio with none other than Taylor Lautner. How's it going?
It is going great. Thank you.
Good. So you like, like it a little set up, a little bit different here, right?
I love it. It's like uh, it's like a little hangout. It's very comfortable.
Speaking of hanging out, you're not getting to hang out too much, cuz you are working like crazy, but that's a good thing.
It is a good thing. I'm not complaining and you know, I I find my downtime uh, right now I'm in the middle of a press tour, so I'm traveling the world and uh, I enjoy it. I mean, I love traveling and I I find time in each city I'm at to like do something, because if if you don't do that, then you're just in hotel rooms all day and then you're off to the next city and you saw nothing.
So you've been in some incredible places between shooting and all the promotion you're doing. What what's been your favorite spot so far you've gotten to go?
Oh man, it's so tough. I I've always loved Australia. So I'm I'm a huge fan of the people and the places, I love Sydney. It's a great city. But it's tough, cuz when you go to Sydney, you have a lot of responsibilities and you don't have a lot of free time and of course you can't really walk down the street cuz everyone knows who you are.
Let's pretend nobody knows who you are and you're you're just there a day to relax. What would the perfect day in Sydney look like for you?
Sometimes I do that. Sometimes I say, all right, I don't care what happens. I am gonna do what I want to do today and uh, sometimes it goes well and sometimes not so well. But last time I was there, I did quite a bit. I mean, some great restaurants, but I went shark diving. I went to uh, I went to a zoo. Um, we went jet boating. I mean, we did a lot of fun things when we were in Sydney.
Everybody would wanna, you know, be you for a day. If you could be someone else for a day, who do you think you'd wanna be?
man. I would um, I'd probably be, I believe his name is Cash, Jessica Alba's husband.
Cash Warren. Yeah. I went to high school with Cash, actually.
Really?
I've known Cash my whole life.
I would uh, I would be Cash for a day.
Cash is a lucky man.
Yes, he is.
That's gonna be tough, Cash. I don't think he'll he'll give that job up, right?
Oh man, I don't think so.
Luck, luck there. You had success really quick. I mean there people that, you know, years and years. Is what you thought it would be? Is there anything that's that's different or or surprised you about being successful?
I mean, yeah, the biggest thing is just sitting here today. It's still it's still surreal for me. I I still have to pinch myself every single day. And I mean it I think it happened with all of us involved in the Twilight franchise because none of us expected it at all. Um, at the time we thought we were just making a little movie that we hoped a few people would like and enjoy and and then it kind of just became an animal and we we did not expect it.
You heard it was difficult when you guys finished filming the last one?
Yeah, it was. I I wasn't expecting it to be that difficult. Uh, I knew it would be a bummer because we we were bummed whenever we would finish any of the previous ones. But it was fine because we knew it was just a matter of time before we came back to film another one. But this time it was like, all right, we're done forever. Like this is the last time I'm playing Jacob Black and uh, this is the last time, you know, the three of us or, you know, all of us are are gonna film a scene together.
Isn't that crazy when you think about it like that?
It's weird.
You know, after all the Twilight stuff, you know, you had a lot of opportunities. And you chose Abduction to be the next one. What what was it about that that you're like, this is it, I'm just feeling it that this is the one I want to do next.
I heard the idea. I fell in love with it from the idea. And then when I read the script for the first time, I couldn't stop turning the pages. It was just, it was very exciting. It kept me guessing and I mean, I was on the edge of my seat just reading the script.
John Singleton, I was talking to him the other day and he was saying he had you study some other films and and some other great actors. So how did you take some of those things you learned and actually incorporate it into this role?
Yeah, I mean the biggest thing is um, we just got a a sense of the tone for the movie. We sat down and we watched a few movies that were kind of similar in tone to this. So we watched Minority Report and The Fugitive with Harrison Ford and, you know, um, one of the Bourne movies with Matt Damon and uh, and yeah, we just got a sense of the movie and it kind of, you know, just got us excited about it. It got us pumped.
If you could have done any role ever, it could have been something before you were even born. What would sort of been the ultimate Taylor Lautner film event?
I'm a little jealous of Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man. Right? Yeah, a little bit. I mean, I uh, I wasn't expecting to love the movie this much, but I'm obsessed with that movie. I just think it would be so much fun to make and uh, I mean, he he does the most brilliant job at playing that character.
Last thing I want to know, you know, tons of people out there, you know, Young Hollywood, they wanna be here. You know, I mean it's crazy that that's fact of the matter is, there are a lot of people that do. What advice do you have though for those people out there that, you know, wanna wanna break through all the clutter and and sort of make it?
The the biggest thing uh, that I would say to them is just go for it and don't stop. Like you you have to continue pushing and working hard. I mean, something that I've learned that's really important to me is, the harder you work, the luckier you get. And it's definitely been the case in this industry. And I mean, it's such a competitive industry, you're gonna hear no a lot. And you're gonna hear a lot more nos than you are yeses and that was the case with me. Um, I mean, I heard a lot of nos, but you've got to be persistent and keep pushing and uh, you'll eventually get there. Just just hang in there and be tough.
That's really, really great advice out there. I want to thank you for for coming and hanging out Young Hollywood Studio. We hope to have you again here soon.
Sounds good. Take care.
