Rashida Jones

I wanted to tell my friend to nut up. Nut up? Be a man. Yeah. That's probably not appropriate. That is a true story.

Young Hollywood

Hey everyone, Nikki Novak here in the Young Hollywood studios with the gorgeous Rashida Jones.

Rashida Jones

Oh, please.

Young Hollywood

And so stylish. Look at those boots. Can we see those boots? Are those yours?

Rashida Jones

These are mine.

Young Hollywood

Wow. Not borrowed. They go with, they go with the studio.

Rashida Jones

They do, right? Yeah. Fun and festive. They're awesome. Hints of red.

Young Hollywood

Before we started rolling, you were saying I know you grew up with a musician father. Yeah. And you used to work at Teen Vogue.

Rashida Jones

I did.

Young Hollywood

And you sort of discovered new talent like you found bands to, you know, and Maroon 5 was one of them.

Rashida Jones

Well, no, Maroon 5 was, I've known them for a long time. I sang backup for them. I sang on their album. No, I got turned way down. I did.

Young Hollywood

Would you?

Rashida Jones

Adam Levine turned me way down in the mix. That is a true story.

Young Hollywood

So growing up with, you know, an actor mother and a musician father, you know, how did they feel about you getting into the business?

Rashida Jones

They were totally cool with it. I mean, they would have supported me no matter what I did. They were, you know, they warned me about the, the potential difficulties, but with any profession, you know, this one especially, my dad was like, what, you know, you have to realize there's like 80,000 other people in SAG that are just waiting for jobs. So

Young Hollywood

And 99% of them are out of work.

Rashida Jones

Exactly. So it was like, it's okay if it doesn't work out. And I was like, it's okay if it doesn't work out. But you know, 15 years later, it's, it's going okay.

Young Hollywood

You went to Harvard.

Rashida Jones

I wanted to be a lawyer, but I never, I didn't go to law school. I went to undergrad at Harvard.

Young Hollywood

But now you play a lawyer. What is wrong with you?

Rashida Jones

You know, I try and do good. It doesn't always work out.

Young Hollywood

And you played a lawyer before in the social network.

Rashida Jones

Yes. What is that? I don't know. I guess that's like, you come across intelligent. That's a good thing. Great. That's good. That's not true in real life, so that's good. But maybe that's like, maybe my secret fantasies are coming coming through in my, in my acting.

Young Hollywood

Being on set and playing a lawyer, because you play opposite Paul Rudd's character and you sort of give him a talking to. Who's the man? You are. Who's the man, Ned? Jesus. Me. Yes. Say it. Who's the man? Who's the man? Who's the man? No, say it. I'm the man. You're the man. You're the man. I'm the man. You're the man. That's right. Say it. I'm the man. Say it. I'm the man. Louder. I'm the man. Yes. Come on. Do you do tell people to man up in real life?

Rashida Jones

I do. I actually was just talking to a friend the other night. I wanted to tell my friend to nut up. Nut up? Be a man. Yeah. That's probably not appropriate.

Young Hollywood

Oh, as if have some Have some cojones. Yeah. Because the character in the movie, Ned's character is so brutally honest that he offends people. Are you that girl?

Rashida Jones

No, no, no. There is a kind of person who's like, I just am like honest. I can't help it. Like, I don't believe in all that. I don't think Ned can help it.

Young Hollywood

And in your family, is there somebody that's sort of like the Ned character?

Rashida Jones

I don't have anybody who's like destructively nice, but I definitely have some family members who are like so nice that it's like painful, you know, like where they just like, they kind of live in their own world.

Young Hollywood

And you tell them to man up.

Rashida Jones

I try to Excuse me, somebody's here for me. Um

Young Hollywood

That's your family member.

Rashida Jones

That's my family member, coming to get me.
