Young Hollywood

What's up guys? Leslie Robbins here in the Young Hollywood studio, joined by a man who is behind many characters, many voices. Often times face paint. We'll get to that in a minute. Mr. Patrick Warberton, welcome to the Young Hollywood Studio, friend.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

Thank you, Leslie, or should I say, Slashly. That is a nickname I used to have.

Young Hollywood

Back when you were on Seinfeld.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

This is correct.

Young Hollywood

For those who don't know, my first job out of college in LA was working on Seinfeld as the set production assistant. Yes. Changed my life, changed the trajectory of my career. Yeah. You, Yeah. Puddy. Talk about what that character did for you, how you got it in the first place. It didn't even last that long and and here you are today.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

It was an audition for a single, you know, a single episode, but they like the character, so they brought him back. It was fun.

Young Hollywood

And it changed your world.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

It did, you know, it's it helped open doors. Strange though, at the same time, you know, when you do something that is that iconic and high-profile and ends up being in perpetual syndication, even though I only did nine episodes, you you it's it's unavoidable to be compared to like a certain character if that character is bigger than life. Like say a Kramer, you know, or Puddy, who just would talk like this, you know, it's like it's sort of like a it's almost a caricature.

Young Hollywood

And then recently you brought back the Puddy character with the New Jersey Devils. You're from Jersey, you're a fan. The character of Puddy played that fan as well. Yes. The face paint, the chest paint. Why did you do it? What were you thinking? Take me there.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

All for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. That's our charity, my event this week. Golf is a great common denominator. That's the one thing that ultimately everybody ends up playing. Rockers do it, actors do it, all your sports guys do it. And then all your businessmen do it. So that's why the the golf tournament makes for a great charity event. It's the biggest event uh in the country for St. Jude of its kind. So it's been a great thing and it's grown. We have a great board and everybody works really hard on it.

Young Hollywood

You raise about $2. 6 million last year at it.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

We uh hopefully we beat we beat our record every year, so we have to beat it again this year. The New Jersey Devils wrote an ice-big fat check for St. Jude, so I went out and did it. That's why I did it. It's for the children. And there's a part of me that likes doing it. So there.

Young Hollywood

To go back to your characters for a second, you're so well known in the sitcom world, obviously all your voice work. People know your voice without even looking, right? Now you've been on Netflix for a while. Final season on Netflix. With another sitcom star, Neil Patrick Harris.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

A series of unfortunate events was a a nice departure because I wanted to um kind of I love the sitcom schedule, you know, but I wanted to do something a little more interesting and and and I got the call from Barry Seinfeld. So I've worked with Barry throughout the years in a number of different projects. The Tick was the first thing we did together and then we did a Men in Black movie and we did a film called Big Trouble.

Young Hollywood

With your acting career and your golf career, you've picked up another little hobby. You're in a band.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

Yeah. A garage band. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Midlife crisis?

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

Total midlife crisis. I didn't start singing until the tender age of 48. I just love it. We're a Pearl Jam cover band. We are the Bearded Pearl Jams.

Young Hollywood

And then tell me where you rehearse. Literally in a garage or a basement?

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

We have a barn that converts. So we got, you know, the the PA and the drums and the amps and the board and everything. So it just all go out there.

Young Hollywood

Just so you know, at the Young Hollywood Studio, we have musicians here all the time. And we have rock stars here. Yeah. Singers, song writers. It would only be fitting. Mhm. If you Mr. Amateur Singer. Well, I don't even know what

Young Hollywood

Show me what you got a little bit. Show me what you got a little bit.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

I don't have I've got nothing.

Young Hollywood

Come on. Come on. You have no. Here, hold this. You have a mic now. I have a mic. You have a mic in your hand, the lights are on, the camera's rolling.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday, dear Slashley. Happy birthday to you.

Young Hollywood

So, it's not your birthday, but you've saved that. I want you to play it for you on your birthday.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

I'm not going to ruin a Pearl Jam song right now cuz I I need help. I need my guys.

Young Hollywood

Okay, well next time you come to the Young Hollywood Studio, you bring your band. You prep your music. We'll get the scene set for you.

Patrick Warburton Talks Seinfeld

I'll just bring Hans and his guitar.

Young Hollywood

Done. Yeah. Done. Shake on it. Pleasure.
