I'm Oliver Trevena here at Young Hollywood with Rich Sommer. How are you?

Rich Sommer

I'm well, thank you. How are you?

Young Hollywood

For Mad Men. That's right. Love the show.

Rich Sommer

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

Glasses are kind of different now.

Rich Sommer

Yeah. They're they're slightly more modern.

Young Hollywood

So you obviously wear glasses?

Rich Sommer

I yeah. I've uh I've worn glasses since first grade.

Young Hollywood

It's funny that a lot of the vintage stuff from the show is now coming into fashion though, isn't it?

Rich Sommer

Yeah, it's I mean we were talking about that yesterday at work that it it seems to have at least the timing of this sort of uh resurgence of of that kind of vintage wear seems to have at least lined up with our show. Whether our show led the charge or and or is just a part of it, it it seems to have uh come back at around the same time.

Young Hollywood

How did this all happen for you? When did you break, I mean, you know, you'd had a few little uh

Rich Sommer

Yeah, I mean I I I I'd had a couple of jobs. The Devil Wears Prada um was kind of the thing that that led into this. One of the um a woman named Julie Schubert who was a casting assistant in The Devil Wears Prada casting office, moved over to Bowling Misha Casting in New York um right around when they were casting Mad Men and and she said that that I might be right for the show and passed along my headshot and um, you know, I just did an audition and It worked. Uh Julie is uh

Young Hollywood

Thank you, Julie Schubert.

Rich Sommer

Yes, it was a good thing. It was a good thing. I'm glad I know you, I'm glad I know you.

Young Hollywood

You done the uh the comedy show Naked in March with uh and Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.

Rich Sommer

Uh, yeah, yeah. Well, it was uh it was a benefit show that Ben Stiller put together for um building schools in Haiti. And it was the Night of 140 Tweets. We took 140 sort of uh people who are on Twitter, um celebrities or or people in the public eye and each person did one tweet. And um Harris Wittles, who's a writer on Parks and Rec, um gave me the idea for the Naked Tweet. And um I did it.

Young Hollywood

Are you happy you gave you that idea?

Rich Sommer

Um, I I yeah, I'm happy that he did it. I mean, uh, I I hope that it it I know it drove some some traffic to the site. Um, not because anyone wanted to see me naked, but because I think they felt like like a car accident. They had to see what was happening. Um, and I hope it drove a couple of dollars towards the the charity. So um, so yeah, I'm glad I did it. Uh I don't think I'll be doing it again.

Young Hollywood

I was gonna say from the the way that was going, I couldn't see any desire to No. Get naked again.

Rich Sommer

No.

Young Hollywood

Um, what's been the craziest thing that's happened on set in the I imagine you guys 'cause of drinking, you'll drink. Obviously don't drink.

Rich Sommer

Well, no, no. I Yeah, that's. It's pretend. Yeah. Well, last year we had um the the scene where the lawnmower goes over a guy's foot and I uh got hit with the blood. I mean, it was only it only became like the initial thing was like kind of exhilarating and fun. Um, the the not fun part was the the two hours following that uh when they kept saying, we're not sure what we're going to do next, so hang on and they would shoot other stuff and they weren't sure if they're going to use. So we had to remain in our bloody um covered in the stuff and it was like, you know, it's like sugar syrup. So you you your skin was kind of hardening in this uh awful uh I guess that wasn't the coolest thing.

Young Hollywood

Once again, it doesn't sound too nice.

Rich Sommer

The most comfortable two hours of my life.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. Okay. Well, I won't be uh asking for any more of them stories. And in fact, on the note of uh you finding lawnmowers running over people exhilarating, nudity is a passion of yours. I think uh we've got quite a mixture here. So we're we'll wrap that up. Really covered everything. We've done.

Rich Sommer

Yeah. We definitely have, but thanks for coming in.

Young Hollywood

Absolutely.

Rich Sommer

Thanks for having me.
