Larry the Cable Guy

Hey guys, I'm Amanda Champagne for Young Hollywood and today we've got with us Larry the Cable Guy. Larry the Cable Guy: That's your real last name.

It is. Larry the Cable Guy: Is it in a phone book?

Champagne, in the phone book. Champagne, I will bring my birth certificate to show you, to prove to you. Larry the Cable Guy: Right. Why would I pick a name that would make me sound like a porn star?

That is correct. Right. Right. So you have a new show on the History Channel called Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy. Larry the Cable Guy: The way we do things, only in America. I go to cities and towns, it don't matter, small cities, big towns, and I find things that are historical to those places and I get the uh and I just get the history of how it started, why is it important to this country. And then I meet the people and we hang out.

So what's uh what's probably like the weirdest place you went to or the the strangest experience you had while shooting season one? Larry the Cable Guy: When we were in Las Vegas, uh I went to the Legends show.

Oh, right, where they dress up as all the famous stars. Larry the Cable Guy: Yeah, they dress up like all that. Well, I went, I dressed up as myself.

Oh, okay. Larry the Cable Guy: And so I went out as somebody else impersonating Larry the Cable Guy. So I went up and I did my some of my acts and everything.

And people didn't believe it was you. They thought it was somebody else. Larry the Cable Guy: Well, they said that I was really good. The jokes were funny. And they said, uh, however, out of everybody that went on stage, uh, and performed, Elvis is the one that looked most like that person. Oh, come on. So I didn't even, they didn't even think that I looked like myself.

And I heard something about a bull-fighting accident. Have you ever gotten injured on the show? Larry the Cable Guy: The crash-a-rama down in Daytona uh, Biflo, Florida. The crash-a-rama. Like car. Where the cars pulling trailers in a race and it was called the trailer race and the carnage. I mean, they were jackknifing and they wanted me to drive in that. And I'm standing. Yeah, it was all race cars pulling one, one pulling a single wide, the other is pulling campers. That's weird. They're pulling jet skis and they're racing. All these rednecks go around racing. Well, I'm standing I said, I'll be safe standing here, I'm not racing. I'm just going to stand here, we'll watch and narrate it. And literally, I'm standing like this and a camper crashes and as it drives by, you hear this, above me and my buddy's head, you'd heard, Ooh, just like that. And I go, what the hell was that? And my buddy goes, did you see that? I go, what? And he goes, a handsaw went spinning like a helicopter right above your head.

Like it flew out of the back of a semi or something? Larry the Cable Guy: Yeah. And I'm like, well, I'm glad I didn't do that. And then my director said, hey, I don't know who at history channel said that that would be safe for you to do, but they should be fired immediately. Hannah, good luck to you. She were a sweet girl. But right now you are my opponent. So you're nothing to me. You understand me? You're nothing to me. I'm not. The one time that I was kind of freaking out, but not just me, my director and the cameraman, which is going to make for a funny show. Down in South Carolina, they go out to get across, they go out to get clams and oysters.

Oh, clams. Larry the Cable Guy: But when Yeah, but when the the the the the water goes out, when the tide goes out, it leaves just these little teeny three-foot canals everywhere. So they get in their boats and they go down these canals. They get up on the banks, they collect oysters and clams. Well, the really good ones are back in the back in the back. So you got to get out and walk through this mud. And you don't know how deep the mud is and I sunk all the way up to here in mud.

And you couldn't get out. Larry the Cable Guy: Took me 45 minutes to get out.

Did someone help you? Larry the Cable Guy: Yeah. Well, the guy, my guide was out there too and he came out to help me and this is his exact statement. He said, you know what, Larry, I didn't know it was going to be this deep out here. I ain't never been stuck before. And now he's stuck. So I was kind of freaking out. I had to hold on to some weeds and pull myself out, swim myself out.
