Grace Van Patten's Thoughts on Playing Adam Sandler's Daughter

I know, it's so cozy.

Tell us a little bit about one of your latest projects, The Meyerowitz Stories.

It was the most amazing experience. Uh, Noah Baumbach directed it, Dustin Hoffman, Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Emma Thompson. I mean, the cast is unreal.

I mean, the cast is unreal. You too.

And me. Yeah, I got thrown in there somehow and um I'm so thankful. It was so, so amazing.

You nailed it.

I not I did not think so. But I guess

And you get to play Adam Sandler's daughter, which is kind of a dream. That's pretty cool.

A dream. A dream. He's so amazing, such a cool guy.

Is he as funny in person?

He's hilarious. He's just he reminds me a lot of of my dad too, which was which was really fun and easy just to connect with.

And I know you have some family that is in the film business, your dad. Yes. Did he come onto set or give you any pointers or did you keep him away?

No, he actually came the last day, but literally just because he was in the neighborhood. And it was my last scene and it was a scene um where uh my dad is getting a hip replacement, which my real dad had gotten a hip replacement too. So there was just a lot of similarities.

Huh. Did your dad or maybe anybody else in your family when you found out you booked this role, give you any advice or have any words of wisdom to share?

My dad's always just like, you know, do do the job and work work as hard as you can. And um but they were also just like take it all in, you know. Yeah. Watch these guys do what they do best and

Enjoy it.

try to learn something.

And your character, from what I understand, is a bit rebellious. Yeah. Right? Which is cool. That's like a really fun character to play. I would think.

It was really fun but in a way where like she she's a family girl and she loves her family so much and and within the dysfunction of the relationship between her grandpa and her dad and her uncle. She still maintains such a great relationship with every single one.

Would you say in real life that you're a bit rebellious?

With acting, actually, because my whole family had kind of done it, was in the business and I wanted to go the opposite way for a while because I'm like everyone does it. I'm not going to I'm going to be the one who doesn't need different.

Would you say that in front of family or just like mentally?

No. I think I would just do it. I was really into sports and I wanted to do that for a really long time. But once I went to LaGuardia High School, it was like done deal.

So, that's kind of what pulled you around.

Totally.

And for those that don't know LaGuardia, I mean, there's it's a lot of arts and I'm sure you were acting a bunch.

Yes. Yeah, it's it's basically like a conservatory. I mean, it's four hours every day.

One thing I know you're rebellious with is social media because I found you on Instagram and you're following two people.

I know. Yeah. Um, not the best with that area. No. See, but that's that's kind of a gift. I I think it's so cool for people who can really do it well and and handle it and you know, really have this voice that they put out there. But I just don't think I know what my voice is yet and I don't really know what what I want to put out there and how how I want the world to see me.

Well, now, now people know. So, they can follow you. You can build the voice. You can follow.

Yes. Yes.

You can maybe follow an additional person. That would be a special person. Maybe Dave, maybe

That would be special.

Who do you think you'd follow if you could follow one add a lucky third into the mix?

Probably like my sister.

Really? You don't follow your sister?

No. I think the only two people I follow are my friends that took my phone and followed them and then I just kind of felt like not a very nice person if I were to take it and then unfollow them right away. So, I just kind of let it rock and uh

Those two are like hanging by a thread. Yeah. All right. Well, you might have to add Young Hollywood to the mix.
